Bilateral XRay - Think Tanks Analysis

Bilateral X-Ray is a joint initiative by the U.S.-Mexico Foundation and the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO), designed to track and analyze the evolving public narrative surrounding the U.S.โ€“Mexico bilateral relationshipโ€”focusing specifically on the work of leading think tanks in both countries.

Through monthly reports, the program monitors publications from key research centers in Mexico, the United States and Canada to:

  • Identify the most prominent topics being discussed in the policy and academic communities related to the bilateral agenda.

  • Highlight the key actors and institutions shaping the conversation around critical issues such as trade, security, migration, governance, and economic development.

  • Map trends, gaps, and emerging opportunities in the bilateral discourse to inform and enhance long-term policy planning.

The initiative is grounded in the belief that think tanks play a critical role not only in providing timely analyses of current events, but also in shaping strategic, long-term government agendas. With that in mind, Bilateral X-Ray aims to bridge the gap between expert knowledge and public policy decision-making.

In todayโ€™s complex geopolitical landscape, understanding how the U.S.โ€“Mexico relationship is being framed and by whom is essential to building a more informed, resilient, and cooperative bilateral partnership.

Ultimately, Bilateral X-Ray seeks to encourage greater synergy between governments and research institutions, ensuring that forward-thinking proposals are translated into impactful public policies that serve both nations and their people.
